Kootenay Mountain Biking will take your biking to the next level. Whether you're getting on your bike for the first time in years or entering your first race, we have programs for everyone.

Our programs combine a controlled, safe environment to get your skills dialled in, and a shuttle service that will get you to the top of the trail with all your energy to focus on the downhill with your coach. Unless of course that is what you are looking for. Coaching for uphill as well as the downhill!

From Day Clinics and Weekend Camps to Weekly Ride Series, you will find a program that fits your goals for this riding season. We offer programs for those 4 years old to 80 years old! As well as recreational riding to World Cup racing.

All our coaches are fully certified mountain bike coaches and first aid attendants. We are an insured business that is committed to providing the highest level of safety and coaching to our participants.

MEET OUR KMB COACHES

Natasha Lockey

Our founder Natasha is a PMBIA level 2 coach with 17 years of coaching experience, Natasha has honed her skills in the art of mountain bike coaching. She has guided snowboarders down icy slopes and bikers over rugged trails, always with a focus on confidence-building and fun. She has developed courses like Bike Coach Mastery and Map Your Trail, specifically designed to help women conquer their fears and master their biking skills.

Her core belief is life should be fun, and that's exactly what she brings to the business and her coaching sessions.

Ian Lockey

Ian is a PMBIA level 1 mountain bike coach, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Life threw him a curveball in 1998 - a snowboarding accident that left him 50% paralyzed from the waist down. A standing paraplegic, Ian carved his way to the 2014 Sochi Paralympics and competed in the Winter X Games in 2011. He has got a trio of USASA National Snowboard Championships under his belt from 2007, 2009, and 2010. Ian's passion is to share his lessons as a pro athlete and show others that anything is possible with the right attitude. He is happiest sharing his love for mountain biking with others to help them reach their potential on the trails. He has been in their shoes, faced the challenges, and come out stronger. Ian is living proof that no matter what life throws at you, you can still chase your dreams and achieve greatness.

Peter Burkitt

Allow us to introduce Pete, a UK native with a strong background in Outdoor Education, who has dedicated nearly a decade to teaching mountain biking. With his PMBI Level 3 certification and PMBI Instructor Trainer designation, coupled with his expertise as a Bike Technician, Pete possesses a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience working with riders of all ages and skill levels, as well as their bikes. He is fueled by a deep enthusiasm for the sport and is eager to impart his passion while embarking on thrilling trail adventures together. Chris Williams

Meet Chris Williams, a passionate bike enthusiast who developed his love for cycling as a young child in the UK. From his early years, Chris found joy in constructing unique bikes by welding various parts together and creating dirt jumps in nearby fields. Riding on two wheels has always represented the epitome of freedom for Chris, whether he's exploring local trails or embarking on a trans-Canada journey to support BC Children's Hospital. There's no place Chris would rather be than on his bike, and he takes immense pleasure in sharing his enthusiasm for cycling, helping others build confidence and cultivate an appreciation for the exhilarating experience of off-road adventures. Let's celebrate the incredible world of bikes with Chris!

Patrick McCormick

Pat discovered his love for Mountain Biking in the early 90's in eastern Canada, despite the then-primitive bikes and trails. After graduating with a BSc Kinesiology in Sport Science, Pat worked his career in Occupational Health & Safety before pursuing his passion for promoting health and wellbeing through mountain biking. Pat's related and enjoyable attitude towards life is well-known, and he's enthusiastic about providing an ever-improving experience for every KMB participant.

Nicole Briggs

Nicole has been mountain biking for 15 years. Her journey began with lift access downhill at Silver Star, but it wasn't until 2008 when she moved to Rossland with her Giant Faith DH bike that she truly discoverd the challenges of peddling a downhill bike uphill. With a new bike, she quickly embraced the "pedal up to come down" style of riding and has, most of the time, not looked back. Nicole enjoys exploring and riding new bike trails with her family and friends while camping throughout BC.

Zac Job

Zac has been a bike nerd for over 23 years. Growing up on the west coast, he spent his time on the trails where freeride originated. Since moving his family to Rossland in 2019, he's taken up a long time goal of sharing his riding passion through coaching. When Zac's not riding his bike you'll probably find him tinkering on his suspension in his basement or talking someone's ear off about bike setup.

Shannon Martin

Originally from Western Australia, Shannon spent his teenage years on a BMX building jumps through nothing but trial and error (i.e a lot of crashes). After almost 15 years off the bike he finally rented a full suspension mountain bike at Kicking Horse in 2013 and fell back in love with 2 wheels. Living in Banff and Japan made serious mountain biking tough, but the last few years living in Rossland, along with an upgrade to a modern bike, have him craving for more speed and bigger air. Shannon is a professional photographer and videographer and also works Ski Patrol at RED in the winter. In the summer when not working you can probably find him digging at the Rossland dirtjumps (just like when he was a kid).

Jana Scott

Jana Scott was born and raised in Rossland and grew up riding the Rossland trails. Mountain biking has always been a passion of hers and she's always incorporated different aspects of the sport into her work life including 3 summers on the KCTS Trail crew, hut keeper at a mountain bike lodge in Italy, Level 1 PMBIA coaching certification and a beginner bike mechanic course. She is very excited to share her passion for mountain biking with those new to the sport or looking to improve their biking skills.

Ian Craib

Ian was part of the first Mountain Bike law enforcement patrol in the lower mainland of Vancouver back in the 90’s and Vancouver Island in the 2000’s and comes to us with 33yrs of law enforcement experience. Ian brings extensive experience of commuting to work, urban riding and organizing cycling related events. Some of Ian's best memories include riding in the Tour de Rock cancer fundraiser and Ride to Survive. Personal highlights include riding the streets of New York City, the beautiful landscape of southern France, not to mention summiting Mont Ventoux and Mount Haleakala! When he's not sleeping you can find Ian riding the local gravel roads looking for abandoned couches, Zwifting or planning his next overnight bikepacking trip.
